FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – BATH LEADERSHIP CONFIRMS HISTORIC TAX CUT

Town of Bath Confirms Historic 10% Municipal Tax Cut on Residential and Commercial Real Estate

Bath, West Virginia — In a significant step toward strengthening the local economy and supporting property owners, Town of Bath Mayor Greg Schene and the Town Council are proud to announce a 10% cut in municipal real estate taxes for both residential and commercial property owners has been approved by the State Auditor’s Office.

The tax cut reflects the Town’s continued commitment to responsible fiscal management, economic revitalization, and long-term community investment. The measure is designed to ease financial burdens on homeowners, encourage private investment, and support the continued growth of local businesses throughout Bath.

“This tax reduction represents more than a financial decision — it is a statement about the kind of future we are building together,” said Mayor Greg Schene. “We want residents, entrepreneurs, investors, and families to know that the Town of Bath is open for business, committed to growth, and focused on making our community more affordable and attractive for everyone.”

Town officials emphasized that the reduction comes at a time when the Town continues to pursue strategic initiatives aimed at revitalizing the historic downtown district, expanding tourism opportunities, supporting small business development, and enhancing infrastructure and public spaces.

The municipal tax reduction applies to both residential and commercial real estate within the Town of Bath and is intended to help stimulate additional investment while maintaining essential public services.

IMPLEMENTATION & ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION

To ensure a seamless transition for property owners, the Town of Bath has outlined the following implementation timeline and guidelines:

  • Effective Date: The 10% municipal tax rate reduction has received final state approval and will be reflected on the upcoming Fall 2026 property tax statements.
  • Automatic Adjustment: Property owners do not need to apply or file any paperwork to receive the discount. The 10% reduction will be automatically calculated and applied by the county tax assessor’s office on behalf of the municipality.

Scope of Impact:

  • Residential: Applies to all primary and secondary residential properties within town limits.
  • Commercial: Applies to all commercial real estate, including retail, dining, lodging, and professional offices within town limits.

Service Preservation: Town leadership confirms that due to strong fiscal auditing and alternative revenue streams (including growing tourism and business B&O revenues), this tax cut will not result in any reduction of essential town services, public safety, or infrastructure maintenance.
